Spice Rack Upcycle

I found this idea on Pinterest, but it was originally from Red Book.
What you do is clear out an old spice rack that you aren't using (luckily for me, I got two as wedding gifts) and instead use it for your craft room to store all those little things in one place!

Here's what mine looked like before...gross! hehe

I cleaned it out, which took some time. Then let everything dry.

Then I filled it with little do-dads that I wanted to keep out for my crafts. I put in buttons, googly eyes, stickers, bobby pins, etc. I have a few more empty ones, so I can't wait to get some more stuff to fill them up. hehe

Mine has a cute handle on top so I just clipped a little korker bow on it to make it look pretty. I'm eventually going to label each bottle once I know for sure what's going to go in all of them. To do that, I will just cut out little circles from scrap paper, write on them, and mod podge them on the tops.

This was a pretty simple idea, but it has really helped me get organized! Hope it helps you too!

Cherry Coke Chocolate Fudge Cupcakes

Cherry Coke Chocolate Fudge Cupcakes

I came up with this idea for a friend of mine. She was throwing a party for her sister and wanted something young and fun.
Ingredients:
1 - Chocolate Fudge Cake Mix
1 1/4 Cup - Cherry Coke
1/4 Cup - Veggie Oil
2 - Eggs
1/2 Jar - Maraschino Cherries
Fluffy White Frosting
Chocolate Sprinkles

Mix the first four ingredients for 30 secs. on low and then 2 mins. on medium.
Chop the Maraschino cherries and mix them into the batter.
Bake as directed on box for cupcakes.

Let cool...then dye frosting with red food coloring and frost cupcakes then sprinkle the chocolate sprinkles on top or top with a cherry on each one.
(I ran out of cherries so I just did the sprinkles)

My friend said these went pretty fast. People get excited when they hear that there is soda pop in their cupcakes...especially if it's Cherry Coke! hehe

Painted La Cocina sign

Kitchen Redo: painted La Cocina sign

La Cocina means The Kitchen, in Spanish. I am redecorating my kitchen with a Mexican theme. I really wanted to incorporate red, yellow, brown and green. The more things that you see me show for my kitchen will be those colors and with old feel. I have been to Mexico many times and just love the food, decor, and traditions.
To make this La Cocina sign, you start with a piece of wood. I found mine at a local thrift store. It is pretty pitiful looking before.

I sanded it and cleaned it all up then I started painting it. I just used craft paint, so it took a few coats to actually cover it. I also wanted the sign to look aged, so I just slapped the paint on quick. Trying not to be perfect.
Second coat, just wanted to cover it with paint.
Then I sanded it again. After I let is dry. Craft paint drys so fast, especially in the summer hot weather.
Then I distressed it with yellow paint and a Instant Age Varnish paint( I got it at Walmart). After I painted the yellow paint I took a paper towel and rubbed it off and smeared it all around. After I let that dry, I sanded it again.
I thought for a minute that is might look like baby poop, maybe because I have little kids. I put it up on the wall before I painted the words and I really like the color. All I did was draw the words free hand in pencil, then paint over the pencil marks. The idea is for it not to look perfect. Which I think I accomplished that. I added some cute little Chilli Peppers too.

XOXO-
