Hospital Survival Kit

Recently, I found out my sister in law had to go in for a non-evasive surgery and I wanted to do something for her to make her feel better while she was in the hospital. I had seen Hospital Survival Kits for women going in to have babies, so I thought I would tweek it a little for someone having to go to the hospital for any reason. I know how it feels to be in the hospital for surgery and I would have loved to have something like this to cheer me up.

I didn't use the baby stuff, for obvious reasons, but you can make them for women delivering as well.

I got most of this stuff at Bed, Bath and Beyond and Target for around or under a dollar each.

I stuffed this 'kit' with:
-healthy snacks
-jelly bellies
-shampoo and conditioner
-face wipes
-wet wipes
-chap stick
-a notepad with a pen

 You can also pack in:
-eye shades
-water bottles
...and more, depending on how long they are staying!

Then just stuff it with tissues, print out your label, cut it out and tape it to the front...and you're done!
Simple and easy, but definitely from the heart!

I thought it turned out really cute! You could even add a darling bow to make it look like a present! I'll for sure be making more of these fun kits for all my friends and family who, for whatever reason, have to stay in the hospital! I'm sure it will brighten up anyone's day!

Autumn Yarn Wreath

Yarn Wrapped Autumn Wreath with Felt Flowers

I know it's almost Winter, and in some places it already is, but I thought I would post a tutorial on my wreath I made for Fall. You can make one like this for Winter as well, or any season, actually...just switch up your colors!

Supplies Needed:
Styrofoam Wreath
Yarn (2 colors)
Felt (a few colors)
Pinecone Mix (optional)
Ribbon (for hanging on door-not shown)

First you want to loop through the end of yarn through the wreath and tie a double knot tight so it stays in place.

Then start looping through the bundle of yarn. It's easiest and fastest if you hold the wreath in between your legs, so you can just pass the yarn over and under the top loop of the wreath.

Make sure you do it tight from the beginning. You don't need to stretch the yarn, just make sure it's tight.

Once you are done wrapping, tie a knot in the yarn around the wreath. Cut off the end of the yarn so it's short.

To make the felt squares, cut out a 3.5" strip from the first color.

Then fold it over, so it makes a triangle and cut it so it folds out into a square.

Use the first square as an outline for the second and third squares and cute those out as well.

Place them around the wreath.

Do the same as above for the next 2 colors of felt.

Place those squares on the wreath as well.

Make sure they are all even and equally spaced.

Take the second color of yarn and start wrapping it around each square. Leave the end loose. It will be a zig zag effect.

Keep going until you make an X on each felt square.

Then cut both ends of yarn and tie a knot in the back.

Heat your hot glue gun and glue down each corner of felt so it stays in place. If they got jostled when you were wrapping the yarn around them, then straighten them before gluing.

To make felt flowers, cut a 6-8" swirl out of felt. Make sure to leave a circle in the center.

Take the end of the swirl and fold up the slanted edge.

Then start wrapping it around itself.

It should look like this when you're done.

This is the bottom.

This is the center circle on the bottom.

You can cut all these out and leave them before gluing them. They will keep their shape.

Once all your felt flowers are cut out and wrapped together, lift up the center circle cover and glue all around the swirls.

Then cover with the center cirlce and press firmly down.

Almost done!
Lay out how you basically want to arrange your flowers and pinecones.

Then start gluing everything on the wreath.

Take a little ribbon, tie it around and through the wreath and create a cute bow at the top!

Harvest Cake


1 Box - Chocolate Fudge Cake Mix (bake as directed)
1 pkg - 1/3 Fat Cream Cheese
1/3 C - Canned Pure Pumpkin
1/4 C - Sugar
1/4 tsp - Ground Cinnamon
1/2 C - Whipping Cream
4 oz - Semisweet Chocolate, Chopped
Whole Raspberries, Blueberries, Blackberries
Toasted Hazelnuts

1. Bake cake as directed. Cool in pans on a wire rack for 10 minutes. Remove from pans and cool completely.
2. In a medium bowl whisk together cream cheese, pumpkin, sugar, and cinnamon until thickened. Place one cake layer on plate. Spread filling over top. Top with second cake layer.
3. In a saucepan bring whipping cream just to boiling over medium-high heat. Remove from heat. Add chocolate (do not stir). Let stand 5 minutes. Stir until smooth. Cool 15 minutes or until slightly thickened.
4. Pour over cake, allowing glaze to drip down sides. Chill until set, about 30 minutes.
5. Top with fruit and other desired toppers.

Makes 14 servings.

I made this a few years ago and it was a hit for Thanksgiving! I got the recipe from the Better Homes & Gardens website. I made it easier by not doing the cake by scratch, but if you want to do there version, just click on the link above. I think either way, you will be extremely happy with the results!

Easy Pumpkin Muffins

Happy Halloween from Heck Fridays!
In the spirit of today's celebrations, here's a recipe for some...


Here's yet another recipe I found on Pinterest! I love that place! hehe
1 15 oz. can - Pure Pumpkin
1 box - French Vanilla Cake Mix
(I've tried it with Spice and with Yellow and it's not as good)
1 cup - Mini Chocolate Chips (optional)
1 tsp - Pumpkin Pie Spice (optional)

First mix the Pumpkin and the Cake Mix together for about 2 minutes.
Also add in Pumpkin Pie Spice if you want. I didn't on this batch!

Then add in the Chocolate Chips.

Mix those in for about 30 seconds.

Set oven to 400 and bake until a toothpick or knife comes out clean.


I think I'll be making these every Fall from now on. They are so tasty!
